Today Hannah Banana celebrated turning 5 with her friends in style! She and I decided together that it would be fun to have a Fancy Nancy 'tea' party. Rachel, Hannah and I had a lot of fun figuring out all the details of the party. From the fluffy feather boas, down to the details of the activities. I am lucky enough to have plenty of lace doilies, tea-towels and table clothes with needle work on them from my grandmother and great grandmother that were all perfect for decorating with. I ended up hitting the local thrift store in search of some tea cups, saucers and old porcelain tea kettles to use for the party. I wanted something more fancy then paper cups and plates. Of course there weren't enough matching cups for everyone but there were plenty of pretty ones. The miss-matched set gave it an eclectic, Alice in Wonderland type feel. Exactly what I was hoping for.
We had lots of candy and bling to go around. From our sucker centerpiece to the sprinkles for the cupcakes the girlies seemed to enjoy every yummy bite. One friend said: I'm just so full from all of the candy!!
When the girls first arrived they picked out some necklaces and feather boa. Then we worked on decorating their headbands. Each headband turned out differently but equally beautiful. After decorating headbands Rachel and I painted everyones finger nails. I truly appreciated Rachel helping me out with the party. She was an excellent helper, and I think it made Hannah feel happy to have her sister around doing something that she enjoys. After everyones nails were painted they frosted and decorated their cupcakes. Then they enjoyed their pink lemonade, cupcakes and other treats as they visited.
The time passed by more quickly than I thought it would. Maybe it was because all the girls were so calm and well behaved we just got through all of our activities rather quickly. Either way it left us with about 40 minutes of unplanned activities. So I pulled out our Fancy Nancy and Pinkalicious books and read a couple stories. Then we opened gifts and played freeze dance to the Frozen sound track. The girls all had a lot of fun and Hannah felt very special.
Benjamin had fun too....when it came time to clean up. He got a little wrapped up in all of the fun!! Hahaha - oh yes I did.
