In an effort be healthier, to help Rachel's endurance with soccer and help Benjamin find an interest in a sport (and secretly run off some of his energy) these three have taken up running. The timing was perfect because our elementary school's 5K was coming up. It gave them something to train for. All of them were doing so well...then we all got sick. So the last two weeks there was no training just healing involved. Even though they didn't get to finishing training we all decided it would still be good to do the race, they wouldn't place but the important thing would that they would finish. And finish they did in 49 minutes. Not bad for their first race, considering they had to walk for part of it and Rachel got a cramp within the first 10 seconds of starting. We are all very proud of them.
Marc said that Benjamin endured very well and at several times was well ahead of him and Rachel. We are sure if he had let him go ahead Benjamin may have placed for his grade. Benjamin has really taken to running. He LOVES it! He can't wait for his next race. Since taking up running his focus and concentration has improved at home and in school, as well as his confidence. He loves telling people that he is doing 'track' and he loves to brag how fast he is. With more practice and training I can defiantly see him doing quite well at running.
Rachel gave it her best and we are very proud of her for finishing. She may have not been as fast as Benjamin but she ensured this race well. When we asked her if she is excited for the next race coming up her response was: I think I will sit the next one out.
