Little did we know how involved and time consuming they would actually be. In fact instead of the kids making the kites while the adults helped it was just the opposite. The adults made the kites, the kids helped a little but mostly played.
It was a production to say the least. There was cutting, tying, glueing, mathematics and some kite-words involved. But we got all 10 of them done then took the kiddos with their new kites down to the park to try them out - after an Easter egg hunt and dinner break of course.

The kites worked ok but there were some serious design flaws. Either by the directions or the builders. We did learn, thanks to Rachel's insisting on having a really really long tail, that the longer the tail the better the kite flew. Also the string attached to the kites kept slipping so we would need to figure out a way to stop it from moving. Oh and maybe we should have one adult per child to teach them how to fly them....then maybe they would work better.
Even though the kites were kind-of a flop the kids had a blast being with each other, most of them had fun flying their kites and we created memories. I am sure we will be talking about the year we made kites for a very, very long time.
And no I do not anticipate us making them again anytime soon.
