Projects, Projects, Projects

I have a friend who said something to me recently.  She said: Do you ever know how to NOT have a project?  When I answered, yes and I'm looking forward to not having any.  She laughed!  Then she said: Ya right!!  You will find SOMETHING to do.

And you know what, she is right.  There is always a project going on at our house and I'm sure there always will be.  I like projects. I like dreaming up things to do or make or re-do and then doing them. I don't know what I would do otherwise!!

Our latest adventure was some furniture my uncle made for us.  My mom brought it out with her on my uncles truck and we spent a week sanding, painting, staining and enjoying them.  I am beyond thrilled with how they turn out.

We have (from left to right): Entryway table, end table and sofa table.

Then there was the love seat and rocking chair from the late 1800's I inherited.  These two pieces were separated for many years and the love seat was desperately unloved by anyone for much longer. I spent a couple years looking for new fabric to recover them because the fabric they were in was not the original, was ugly and was in bad shape.  I finally found fabric and amazingly enough it was on sale for half off with additional 40% off of the sale price.  I basically found the PERFECT fabric for very cheap.

I bought the rest - which ended up being way too much.

After cleaning the love seat and rocker, and glueing some pieces back on; I got to work on recovering them. I used the original tacks and brads to attach the fabric and they both turned out BEAUTIFUL!  I love having them both sit in my front room, beautified and back together again:

While all of those projects were going on we had a major one going on outside.  Our patio!!!  YAY!!  no more goat head thorns, weeds, dirt and mud.  I am so happy about this!

We had 2 sections poured in different colors and textures.  The lighter grey color has a smooth surface for the kiddos to do beautiful chalk drawings on.  We also had the kiddos put their handprints and initials on that side too.  This will also be the side we build a 15x16 foot deck on - right off the dining room. I am SO thrilled and can't wait for it to be done.

Now the second part of the patio that was poured is a darker grey color, with a few different grey shades in it to show the texture stamp we had done. Then it is sealed with a glossy (and sparkly) finish so you can see the colors better.  It is absolutely gorgeous! I cannot wait to have some sweet parties with friends out there very soon.

Oh the other projects I worked on but failed to mention:  The curtains I made for the downstairs family room and the cabinets and countertop I put in downstairs as well.  Phew!
