My mom was able to come out for a week and we loved having her. We knew about the visit but didn't tell the kids, partly because I didn't want to be bothered every few minutes by questions like "Is grandma coming today!?" or "Why is grandma not here yet!?" But mostly we didn't tell the kids because we wanted to see their faces when Grandma pulled in the drive way on June 20th, 5 minutes before Rachel and Benjamin were to leave for school.
We were outside waiting for their ride to school when this huge truck pulled into our driveway. All of the kids were confused; then Rachel asked "Is that Grandma Dorothy!?" After I replied yes they ran to the truck and gave her huge hugs after she got out of the truck. I think Hannah was a bit unsure at first because she hung unto me for a while. When I told her that it was for sure Grandma and she was going to be visiting for a while, she got a huge shy grin on her face and went to say hi to Grandma. She didn't leave her side much after that. Andrew took a few days to be sort of comfortable with her and before she left he wouldn't scream every time she touched him - so I would say we made great progress.
We kept busy while she was here having our patio being worked on and working several other projects while she was here. We finished our entry way table, sofa table, end table, picked and canned enough cherries for 12 quarts, re-upholstered a love seat and finished the base cabinets in the family room downstairs. And of course we played. I would have loved to gone and done fun things with her outside of the house but we were sort of under house arrest with the patio being done and also because Rachel and Benjamin were still in school. But that being said, we had fun and enjoyed our time together.
One thing we did do while she was here was have a mini birthday celebration for all of the kiddos birthdays. She brought them out their birthday gifts, we went out to eat and actually ordered dessert and then saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 in the theater. It was an expensive celebration all around, but totally worth it. We look forward to another whirl-wind visit from her in August for Rache's baptism.
GASP!
I have a child who is old enough to be baptized . . . whoa.
Mind blown.
Guess I better get to work on her dress.

Love all the fun! Do you have any pics of the furniture? I would love to see them and your new deck!
