Luke the Skywalker

The kiddos have been eating, breathing, reading, dreaming, and playing Star Wars for a long while now.  During all of this eating, breathing, reading, dreaming and playing they have also been begging us to watch the movies.  They talk about so many details you would think that they have already seen them.  After much begging on their part and much discussion on our part as to whether they should see it now or later we have decided that we will let them watch the movies.

But we can only watch them on Friday nights, as a family AND we started with #4.  We will be watching them in the order that they came out.  As far as episode III : Revenge of the Sith goes that one will probably wait a while longer - it's just a wee bit too dark for their young minds right now.

When we told them that yes we could watch them, they have been over the moon excited and only increased their imaginative play.  I have loved watching them enact Star Wars they way they imagine it.  It was been fun, crazy, loud and exhausting.  Hannah is constantly coming up to me or Benjamin or Marc and asking "Can you be Luke the Skywalker?!"

And just today Benjamin quoted the movie during their play : "If you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." (Obi Wan)

It has been most fun watching THEM watch movies we love and grew up with. Their eyes are huge, their faces glued to the T.V. set, and their bodies rigid with tension. It has been hilarious to have daily conversations about the planet Hoth, Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Dagobah and of course Luke the Skywalker.

And so here we are, making more Star Wars memories, with popcorn of course:

In addition to letting them watch Star Wars we are letting them sleep under the stairs in the reading nook tonight.  So far everyone is still awake (9:30 pm) - I don't think we will be doing this part again any time soon.

But hey, they are only little once, right?
