Frozen Craft B-day Party

Rachel finally had her dream party a week after postponing it because of sicknesses going through our house.  She was SO happy and excited and bouncing out of her skin all week in anticipation for it.  I had hung the decorations a week prior because we were planning on having the party earlier but when she got sick the day of the party we rescheduled everything. But there was no way I was going to take down the decorations.  They took me almost 2 hours to hang, I won't to be doing that again.  SO all week long it has looked like a snow storm in our home.  Now Hannah wants them up for her birthday next week . . . what's another 4 days anyway?  So, stay they will.

I must admit, the decorations turned out pretty awesome.  I really had a blast coming up with them and the best part - everything was cheap!  I think I spent a whole whopping $3 on everything and that was just for the streamers.  I printed off a couple cute pictures, pulled out all of the doilies my aunt made, and then my kiddos and I had fun one afternoon cutting out a whole bunch of paper snow flakes.  It is truly a magical, dream-like feeling in our home.

Anyway so today was the day.  The day of the much anticipated party.  Rachel expressed her desire to do a bunch of crafts for her birthday.  She is really into crafting and drawing right now, so it made for a perfectly fun and original party. I found some fun, do-able crafts on good old Pinterest and bought the supplies for 4 crafts, and the invitations that I made and printed off for $30.  Seriously this is the cheapest party ever!  Of course the fact that the party is taking place when all of the school supplies are on sale and those just happen to be everything I needed for the party totally helps.

As a gathering activity the girls colored pictures from the movie Frozen, then we did ice painting, building a snow man with his own personal flurry and last of all Frozen silly putty - with glitter of course.  The girls really enjoyed the ice painting a lot.  To do ice painting you mix equal part epsom salt and hot water until it is dissolved, then you paint it right onto black paper.  As the 'water' dries ice crystals form.  Seriously easy.  Seriously cool.  The girls took it a step further and painted it on their arms.  As it dried the girls had ice crystals on their skin - totally cool and harmless.

After getting their craft on for 1.5 hours we quickly cleaned up and switched gears so they could have  yummy cupcakes. Rachel and the girls loved every moment of it.  I could just see the love her friends have for her and each other during every moment; especially during the traditional singing of the birthday song.

Rachel really does have some wonderful friends.   We are so grateful for all of the cute girls who came to celebrate with her.  Rachel really has a talent for making friends, everyone she meets becomes her new best friend so it was hard for her to choose who to invite.  I felt bad telling her she needed to limit the number of friends.  But really, we can't invite every single person she has ever met.  Can you imagine how crazy that would be!?
