On Thursday Hannah went back for her second Sigmoidoscopy (which is a super fancy word for colonoscopy). Since learning she was indeed allergic to bakers yeast we we took her off anything with bakers yeast in it. There were a few times we were surprised to learn that something we did feed her had yeast in it. Things you wouldn't think about. I think they may use it as a 'filler' in a lot foods. For example: Some meat rub seasonings. Or flavored potato chips or many crackers, pretzels, and other seasoning packets all have yeast in them. Luckily it is a listed ingredient. For that we are grateful.
We have figured out things she can eat and stick with those, which means we eat a LOT of tortillas. And just so you know PB&J rollups are not really good. But the kids will sometimes eat them, so thats good. Still she usually prefers to have everything separated - which is fine by me.
Usually a Sigmoidoscopy is done while someone is awake but because she is so little the doctor has her put under a very light anesthetic. That can be a little nerve wracking because you never know how they are going to react. She did well last time and luckily this time was no different.
Her doctor took some biopsies to check for any allergens (like they found last time) but he says everything looked so good and healthy he doesn't suspect they will find anything. He took a picture of her colon, to give to us. He and I were so amazed at the difference we saw from pictures of her first procedure. Her first pictures you could see little white spots (the allergen), it was all red and inflamed. This time it was not inflamed, there were no white spots and it was the perfect color. She has a super healthy colon now. We are all so happy!!! This only proves even more that she is indeed allergic to yeast and that we have helped her body to heal itself.
Next step we wait to hear back from the biopsy results and to hear from her allergist. Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts as we deal with this adventure.
