Potty Power

Our Hannah Banana has been showing interest in going to the potty for a little while now. I was always too busy or too tired so I kept ignoring the signs until earlier this week.

I don't exactly remember now what she did but she was very animate about it. So I pulled out the underwear, potty chair, got the treat bag ready and bought 'potty snacks' on Wednesday with every intention of starting the potty regime on Thursday. But on Wednesday when she saw me putting everything together she asked what I was doing. After I told her what everything was for she imminently went to the froggy potty, tore off her diaper and went potty - in the froggy potty.

So I sighed and succumbed to the fact that we were starting that day.

And she has done AMAZING!

It has only been 4 days but she has been extremely successful.  (I know the bag is broken down by weeks, it is actually days...mom brain.) The third day was touch and go though; I thought we would for sure be giving it up for a little while.  She woke up crabby and flat out refused to use the potty.  She fought me tooth and nail. That could have been partly due to the fact that her "ah-e" (pacifire) got a hole in it and had to be thrown away and we didn't replace it.  We said goodbye to diapers and "ah-e" at the same time. So I put her back in cloth diapers for the day and let her go. I didn't say anything and watched as she still took herself to the potty when she needed to go - most of the time.

By the fourth day she was excited again - she even woke up dry! - and was taking herself to potty. No the 'froggy potty' no longer resides in our living room he is back in the bathroom. Number 2's are a little bit of an issue still.  She got it in the froggy one time but since then she hasn't.  Oh she gets to the bathroom and starts pulling down her underwear but it has already started and then lands on the floor - next to the potty.  So she is close, she recognizes it she just needs to go a little quicker.  It will happen.

I'm optimistic.

So as a little test to see how she is actually doing at taking herself.  We went out to celebrate and got a burger at Wendys.  We didn't say anything to her as a reminder.  We were enjoying our dinner when we hear:

I have to go potty!

So I ran her to the bathroom, and guess what, she went!  She went on a big potty. This little girl has grown up over night, literally.
