Free Fishing Day

Today in our neck of the woods was free fishing day! No, we don't own a boat, my fishing rod is broken, Marc's needs some TLC and Rachel's is just a play fishing rod, but that didn't stop us! We headed up to Pine view Reservoir and searched around for a spot for about an hour until we found this place. It's a bit of a hike in but it was an easy hike in and with kids that matters a whole lot!

We didn't end up catching any fish (we didn't really think we would) but we all had a blast anyway. Our spot was secluded with lots of space to set out the chairs, so we did a little 'fishing', watched some boats go by, had a picnic, and then mostly threw rocks in the water.

Rachel's rod ended up getting tangled and messed up somehow so I spent about 15 minutes fixing the darn thing. Marc told me to not worry about it, but I persevered and was able to get it to work again. I feel pretty good. :)

Marc somehow lost his hook and bobber at one point, but we figured we would just fix it later and decided to have fun with the kids while were there. After a little while we watched the bobber floating closer, and closer, and closer still to the shore so he decided to try and get it. He couldn't quite reach it with our little (toy) net, so tried to tie it to a longer stick - which didn't work. Then he decided to climb down the embankment (the easy part) where he got his feet wet and muddy, but was able to get the bobber. The only hard part of getting the bobber was getting back up. It was a very steep embankment and he got stuck!! I so wish I would have gotten a picture of that. :(

Luckily there was some tall grass along the edge which he was able to grab and pull himself (muddy feet and all) back up. Which is a good thing because I'm sure there was no way I would have ever been able to get him up by myself. I did find a big stick that I was about to hand to him to try and pull him up with but luckily that never had to happen.

After having our little picnic we headed back to 'Big Greenie'. When we were about 1/3 of the way back we realized we left Marc's fishing pole so I headed back by myself to 'save' the day. Though I think Marc had the tougher part, he had both kids he was trying to keep on the trail, away from the cliff and out of the water.
