Hello Primary

Today I was called as the primary chorister in our ward. I had a feeling that I would be receiving this call. It came as no surprise to me because shortly after we heard that the previous primary chorister and her family were moving I had an interesting experience which I would like to share. I was playing some songs from the children's song book one afternoon and while I was playing I had a warm, tingling sensation. Next came a very overwhelming thought come to my mind that I would be the next primary chorister. After having that thought and feeling I decided to become more familiar with the songs, so I spent time everyday just playing and thumbing through. A few weeks later the primary president asked me to sub until Bishop called someone to the position and she also added that she 'wanted me' in there. Two weeks later they called me as the primary chorister. I don't' share this experience to boast I share it for 3 reasons:

1. For me it is a very spiritual experience. It's a confirming witness of the Holy Ghost and this influence it can have in your life if you are reading the scriptures and praying.
2. To remind me what I can have in my life if I continue to read my scriptures and pray.
3. I haven't been in primary since I was 12 and I don't remember what my chorister did to make singing time fun. And I can use some creative fun ideas. So if anyone has some ideas, I could sure use them-please send them my way!

You'll do great. My mom used "singing pills" to get her primary kids excited (skittles). I'm not sure how she used them...maybe she handed them each one to get them singing. But when we asked my neices and nephews to tell us something they will always remember about Grandma, they said it would be her singing pills in primary.

You will be AWESOME!! I think one of the most important things about a successful primary chorister is a lot of confidence and energy. Sister Carrigan was the funnest one I've ever seen, and the main thing about her was that she just got up there and laughed and had fun, while at the same time helping the kids learn and stay focused. It's also very important to be on time!! I can remember lots of times when our chorister was late (I love her to death, of course! and she had five kids to get ready!) and it's really hard to act like things are together if the chorister isn't there and you're scrambling around for songs.

Mostly, just have fun! That is such a great group of kids and leaders. I want to be in primary again!!! Congratulations!!!

I think that would be a wonderful calling! Good luck to you. If you love the kids and remember to have fun you will have a wonderful experience and so will the children. Thank you for sharing your experience. I have had an almost identical experience. When the bishop called me I told him about it and he said that it helped confirm the spiritual prompting that they recieved. What a blessing to have the confirmation!

Primary chorister is one of my favorite callings. You'll love it. As for ideas, check out The Friend. On the sharing time page there is usually an idea for teaching the song for that month.

Congratulations! I remember my choirister when I was in junior primary - just yesterday - and she had this "magic" bottle that contained a blue liquid. As we sang better, the blue liquid would rise. I didn't know until I was an adult that it was the heat of her hand and how she held the bottle that made the liquid rise. It sure worked for her - she had our complete attention. Sorry, though, I have no idea where to get such a thing. I can e-mail her if you like. She might remember.
