It all started Monday after my doctors appointment...well maybe we should start AT the doctors appointment. After finding out I was at a 4 and still only 60% effaced the doctor decided to 'sweep' my membranes. Let's just say OUCH - but it sure moved thing along. At noon I started noticing that I was having contractions 8 minutes apart. They weren't getting closer or stronger so I went about my business. After a few phone calls to family members about what was going on (because I couldn't get in touch with my doctor) we decided to have dinner and see what things were like later. Well it wasn't but shortly after dinner that things were getting more painful so we loaded up the car with our stuff and headed to the hospital. I was admitted into the hospital after learning that I was at a 6 and 90% effaced...this was really happening!
I was given the epidural around 8:30, my bag was broken at 10 and after 4 pushes our little boy was born at 12:47 am July 1 2008. Weighing in at a whopping 7 lbs. 12 oz, 20.5 inches long; much bigger than any one was anticipating - and with a head 'chuck full' of hair (in grandpa's words).
Grandma and Grandpa Anson were wonderful enough to drive up Monday night to take care of Rachel. She had so much fun with them she didn't miss me...which is good right? Tuesday morning they brought her up to meet her new brother "Benjin". She was so excited to see him and even got upset when someone else was holding him because she wanted him all to her self.
Marc had the privilege of cutting the cord and putting on Benjamin's first diaper...hopefully the first of many. Here is one of the first daddy and son pictures, what a cute pair.
While we were waiting to get the OK to leave Rachel zonked out on the couch in the room. While both our children were sleeping we looked at each other and had a similar thought, this is for real.

oh, WOW!!! Congratulations!! What a handsome little guy!!!!! I'm so happy for you guys. He already has as much hair as Rachel did the last time I saw her!! And he looks so mature--he doesn't look like a newborn at all!! What a woman! When I grow up, I want to be like Liz. Hopefully, I get to be alot like you pretty soon here....They're sweeping my membranes on Wednesday, hopefully we'll have the same results!! We love you! Congrats!
Yeah! Look at all that hair. And Mandy's right...he doesn't even look like a newborn...good and healthy. I thought about you all yesterday because I knew you had your appointment and I've been checking you blog religiously! Yeah...he's here...and it IS for real. I just can't get over how old he already looks. He looks like he's 3 months already.

Congratulations to you and your family on the new addition!
Yikes! It took us 4 kids X 18 months to total that much hair. Did it tickle on the inside? He's a handsome lad. Good work!
